We are getting deep into the field trialing season here in the Northeast and everyone is raring to go after the extreme winter. We are seeing great participation this year as it seems a lot of guys have good young hounds coming up after a good hunting season (in PA anyway).
I am blessed to have a couple, myself, so my wife Lisa and I have been hitting the trials hard. We run our hounds in AKC Small Pack Option trials and have been lucky to show well with hounds born at our house. I have a couple of 13” females that I am very proud to run against anyone, but I am most excited by what I am seeing from Purnell’s DeadRiver Hare Razin’ Gem. She is one of our younger hounds and is out of Field Champion Gundog DeadRiver Hare Razin’ Ruby X Field Champion Purnell’s DeadRiver Rebel. Ruby has won the Better Beagling Magazine/ Northeast Beagle Gundog Federation’s Trial of Champions the last 2 years. Ruby is a very nice hound and is producing very nice pups.
At just over 2 years old Gem placed 3rd at her first trial this year and a week later placed 2nd in a big class of 42 quality beagle gundogs. I am looking forward to a fun couple of years…
