PA North Central Pheasants Forever Chapter 630 Youth Safety Day

I had the opportunity to attend the PA North Central Pheasants Forever Chapter 630 youth safety day on September 24th, 2017. Chapter 630 covers Elk county and all surrounding counties. This non-profit conservation organization is highly dedicated to our youth and our veterans, while keeping pheasant hunting alive and well through their mission statement of dedication to the protection and enhancement of pheasants and other wildlife.

I attended many different hunting safety classes, but this one was the most unique by far. Not only was this class about hunting safely with an upland dog and its’ owner, but also about respecting them. They taught kids the importance of listening and following instructions. The members also gave several amazing demonstrations of what the kids would be experiencing in the field with flushing and pointing dogs. It was a wonderful feeling looking out across those young faces and seeing them react to live demonstrations. I believe some of the parents will buy bird dogs real soon!

Speaking about our youth and their bird dogs, I was blessed to present a young trainer, Kaitlyn Draa, a special gift on behalf of Lion Country Supply. Kaitlyn has been part of Pheasants Forever since she was 12 and participated in youth hunts. Now, at age 16, Kaitlyn is training her own bird dog to guide for this fall's hunters. We gave Kaitlyn our Lion Country Supply Bird Dog Trainer 800 electronic collar that features dog training and remote launcher capabilities.

At Lion Country Supply we know it's extremely important to keep our youth involved in the outdoors. When you have someone like Kaitlyn that has the love and passion for the outdoors, we will be there to help them along. I encourage everyone to sign-up your child for one of Chapter 630's free pheasant hunts. Veterans should also take advantage of this opportunity too!
