Useful ways to utilize your LCS Brass Name Plate

Every day at Lion Country Supply we are asked by our customers what is appropriate information to put on the brass name plates that we install on dog collars. The function of that information is to make it as easy as possible for someone to get your lost dog back to you when found.

With that in mind, the most important information you can have on your name plate is a phone number. Most people, if they find a lost, are going to try to give you a call to make arrangements to get your dog back to you. Which phone numbers are most important? If you are driving around looking for your dog, the easiest number to reach you will be your cell phone. Additionally, you may wish to have your home landline number or your work number. Another option is to have your spouse or hunting buddy's phone number on your tag. On my own dogs? name plates I have my cell phone number and my wife's cell phone number. These are the two easiest numbers for someone to reach me if they have my dog.

The next most important piece of information to have is your name. We always recommend to customers to have their name on their name plate, and NOT THE DOG's NAME. If your name is on there the person who found your dog will know who they are calling and know who the dog belongs to. We don't recommend having the dog's name on the tag. It makes it much easier for someone to steal your dog if they know his name.

The last bit of information that is important to have on your name plate is your hometown. If you live in central Pennsylvania and are hunting in Michigan when you lose a dog it will be important for whoever finds your dog to understand that he is a long way from home.

Many of our customers like to try to include their home address on their name plates. There are a few reasons we generally don't recommend that. First and most obvious is that nobody is going to be able to mail your dog back to you, but in all seriousness, they are just as unlikely to jump in their truck and try to drive him home. Most people are going to call you. Putting your street address on your tag takes up valuable space that could/should be used for more important information.

The important thing to remember is that the purpose of the name plate is to make it easy for whoever finds your dog to contact you to ensure his safe return. For most people that will be your name, your home town, and your home and cell phone numbers.
